Houston A Drag on Texas Unemployment Figures

Oh dear.  Coming right on the heels of yesterday’s post about trying to run against success, this is not good news for Bill White and his planned campaign for governor.

The local unemployment rate shot up to 8.8 percent in January, the Texas Workforce Commission reported this morning. The rate was 8.2 percent in December.

Meanwhile, the overall Texas rate held steady at 8.2 — which therefore means that Houston’s numbers are dragging the Texas average up.
