Osama bin Laden, America’s most wanted man, will not face capture in Pakistan if he agrees to lead a “peaceful life,” Pakistani officials tell ABC News.
The surprising announcement comes as Pakistani army officials announced they were pulling their troops out of the North Waziristan region as part of a “peace deal” with the Taliban.
If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden “would not be taken into custody,” Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, “as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen.”
But… but….
President George W. Bush on Tuesday warned that Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, was still pursuing his vision of “a unified totalitarian Islamic state that can confront and eventually destroy the free world,” and said that while Al Qaeda had been weakened, it remained a dangerous and evolving threat.
Five years after our nation was attacked, the terrorist danger remains. We’re a nation at war — and America and her allies are fighting this war with relentless determination across the world.
