Polimom Says

The horse has surged out of the barn

Our eminent, highly-respected, and thoroughly useless congress critters are busy debating about having a debate on a non-binding statement of opposition to the surge. They’re ridiculously arguing about whether, and how, and with whom, they should debate — basically filling D.C. with noxious vapors that accomplish absolutely nothing.

“All of them are nonbinding, which means they have no consequence,” said Lugar, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “So therefore, the impression is being given that we are taking vigorous action when in fact we are not. This is simply, as I say, a venting of emotions.”

Ummm… I don’t know about you, but I was certainly not under the impression that any type of action was being taken, vigorous or otherwise.
And while all these blowhards entertain themselves and posture for posterity, the surge they oppose or support is already underway (al-Jazeera):

New Iraqi security checkpoints have been set up across the city and thousands of US soldiers have begun to be deployed as the operation begins.
The Baghdad Operation Command will officially takeover on Monday and a massive security offensive will follow soon after, US colonel Douglass Heckman, a senior military adviser, said.
The new command is part of plans by George Bush, the US president, for an offensive to end Baghdad’s sectarian violence.
“It’s going to be an operation unlike anything this city has seen. It’s a multiple order magnitude of difference … a couple hundred per cent,” Heckman said.

The horse has left the barn, and our leadership is still trying to figure out which end of the saddle faces forward.
