I often read people who, while discussing the state of affairs in our country, invoke the Founding Fathers. Between one thing and another, I’ve been thinking of them too — or more accurately, what they’d have thought of us.
Myself, I don’t think they’d be particularly impressed by what we’ve done with their creation — in large part because imho, the system we’re using today doesn’t look much like what they were trying to achieve.
Are we on the path they tried to set us on? If not, where do you think we went awry?
FWIW — I think we drove off the road with the 17th Amendment. But maybe I’m just feeling negative about the direction we’re going. What do you think?
