Polimom Says

Can you see the future?

Have you ever dreamed an event, and then had it happen? Do you believe people do?
I never remember my dreams, and so I have absolutely no idea whether this happens to me. However, I often know that the phone is about to ring (before it does), and who will be calling. Is that a type of prescience, or ESP?
More to the point: can prescience be inherited? Because I have a story:
Recently, my Amazing Child (hereafter referred to as AC) had a disturbing dream in which her best friend’s grandfather died. Now, this was no ordinary grandfather; it was in fact the friend’s “father figure” – the primary male role model in her life.
AC woke up that morning very sad and concerned, but Polimom reassured her that no, he was fine… and at the time it was true. I’d seen him driving in the neighborhood the day before. (I’m sure you can see where this is going… )
About ten days later, we got one of those very sad phone calls. Sure enough, this wonderful, interesting, beloved man had passed away suddenly. Eerie, yes?
I’ve read about this in science fiction novels (Polimom’s preferred genre), but always filed the entire ESP “thing” with UFOs and alternate realities.
I can’t do that anymore… because this wasn’t the first time it happened. In fact, three years ago, AC had a similar dream about her father — with the same ending. She’s now just a bit afraid of herself (and I don’t blame her).
So Polimom’s curious. Have you ever experienced things like this?
I don’t mean have you ever heard of somebody who did this? Polimom’s wondering about first-hand, “it happened to me” feedback. Because it’s really an odd (and somewhat unnerving) phenomenon to witness.
