After months of wrangling, and highlighted by several days of acrimonious debate and political stupidity, the Texas State Board of Education passed a new set of curriculum standards yesterday.
There are… um… some problems.
Sigh…
Since Adorable Child will be entering high school next year, our impending relocation out of Texas seems all the more timely.

As I commented on Facebook: I love Texas in so many ways. If I had kids, I’d leave, though, and we’d probably be in northern Virginia or Maryland.
I am a long time teacher which removed myself from the public school scenario many years ago. Teachers are not allowed to do their job and teach.
There are very good private facilities for students. This is the way to go. Home school is possible. There are private schools which will teach for you, but according to your plan.
Wait. I am WAY behind! You’re leaving TX? Where ya headed? Is this a good thing for you and your family?
Yup, we’re leaving Texas. And yes — assuming we survive this month’s insanity, it’s a very good thing for us all.
