For those of you who have been so worried about what would happen when the thousands of refugees who were directed across the CCC came off into Algiers – I was just told that Sheriff Lee set up barricades at the exits. They were not allowed off the expressway, both for their own safety (side streets flooded), and because there was no help avaible for them if they got off.
Buses were coming to get them from the expressway. Just thought I’d let you know…

It’s happening now. The Point is reporting that the National Guard is in Algiers, and is going door-to-door telling everyone they have to leave. Does anybody out there have a car with a spare set of keys that can be …

I am praying that the the Federal Government of the USA and in particular its umbrella FEMA organisation will face up to the incredible short-comings of their response to the disaster which has unfolded before the eyes of the whole world.
The only right response is not to shelter your disgraceful lack of responsibility, in terms of a pre-determined and coordinated, humanitarian response to such an inevitable catastrophe, but to now fully admit your total shortcomings and ‘own up’ to the citizens of N Orleans and the US that your behaviour this week has been reprehensible and inhumane – some may even call it a crime against humanity. Be aware that in 2005 the eys of the world are upon you and you can run from your responsibility but you cannot hide.
