For the next few days, the “poli” will be in abeyance as the “mom” takes Adorable Child to her first state-level swim meet.
I’ve promised to contain myself (as in… not cheer loudly, or stand so close that it’s obvious she has a mother, or commit any other embarassing transgressions…), and in return, she’s agreed to ride in the car with me.
So — y’all are on your own for the remainder of the weekend, ‘cuz I’m off to Austin.
(And since I’ve never been to Austin, please feel free to comment with suggestions for fun things to do in the evenings with a 10-year-old there. When I hit the inevitable brick boredom wall, I’ll call DH and get him to share your advice…)

And… we’re back! Thanks for the suggestions very much, too. The meet ended up taking rather more of our time than one might have predicted, unfortunately — though we did find our way to some things. Looked for the bats, too, but it’s a little too early, apparently in the spring yet.
