Algiers folks,
We’re still waiting for an answer from Jeff Arnold about an officially sanctioned return to Algiers to feed/rescue pets, assess damage, and collect belongings. We need to press for a defined event.
I’ve been on the phones with them all morning, trying to emphasize the importance of timely information – especially if they are going to allow something later this week. People will need to get to the correct side of Louisiana (from wherever they are) to access the city, so timeliness is crucial.
As of this moment in time, the official stance, still, is that Algiers is not authorized to pass through Jefferson Parish to get to Algiers. I’m hoping for a better answer soon.
Hang in there…. more soon….
Update: I hope it turns out to be unnecessary, but I’ve posted a Draft petition in the forum, here. Just in case…

“Fort Pelican” has morphed into “Meals Without Wheels” on AP – much better!!!! They’ve connected with some of the elderly that you’ve written to us about, and the community is again able to help one another. Security is a good …
I have tried all week to visualize the world we live in today, had Rosa Parks not refused to give up her seat. I can’t come up with it. The ramifications of that event changed our society as profoundly as …
Gracious! If this WaPo story is accurate, BellSouth appears to have had quite the temper tantrum about the WiFi access in NOLA. Hours after New Orleans officials announced Tuesday that they would deploy a city-owned, wireless Internet network in the …
The new head of the NOPD, Warren Riley has come out with his long-awaited (by me, anyway) announcement for the future of New Orleans’ law enforcement. Unless something more substantial is forthcoming, this is quite a disappointment. NOPD Chief announces …

We have friends returning to Pelican today(Wednesday). We plan to return to Pelican tomorrow (Thursday). I don’t know if we’ll make it through, but we’re hearing success stories. If I hear any news from them I’ll pass it on.
My brother in law got in to Aurora Garden. Not sure if he had any problems with security posts. He lives on Brighton Place and his house was fine. Yall are in our thoughts and prayers.
My husband got to our house in Walnut Bend this morning about 8:00. A Jeff Parish friend drove him in. They were not stopped for ID. Our home sustained some shingles blown off and siding ripped off but, all in all, we were very lucky. Our cats were all fine in the house. Our main concern was getting them out so now he can. He reports lots of police presence in Algiers, saw a command post (so to speak) at the P.O. on MacArthur. Also police presence in the Oak Park parking lot next to MacDonalds. Let’s hope we all will be allowed back into Algiers soon for good! Good luck to all.
Have contacted Jim Tucker’s office on this issue and he is meeting with some officals at noon today (now) to see if he can help on tihs matter.
