So. It’s done.
Surgery was Wednesday, and I was released around noon Thursday (yesterday) to come home.
Turns out that coming home is very difficult… because it’s ever-more clear with each passing hour that I had surgery on my spine (duh!), and recuperation will be slow.
I can’t bend. I can’t turn. I can’t walk easily because my left leg is still suffering some residual nerve pain. Plus, it’s very very sore from its first use in weeks. Sitting down feels good now, but only for a few minutes. Sleep was difficult last night, and I had to hit the pain medication hard (I rarely need it otherwise now).
On the upside — I’M HOME!!! I can walk without screaming in pain! I can sit — even on the potty! (TMI? Sorry, but that’s a biggie.)
Yes, I’m very sore. Yes, it hurts to do many things. But I can actually do some things now. For instance — I got up and made breakfast for Adorable Child this morning! She was very happy about that, since it seems Daddy puts too much butter on the waffles. (Hint for Daddy: Use zero butter, she doesn’t notice.)
And best of all, I’m looking at the world from the normal viewing position — vertically!
Presumably, I’ll begin to improve more noticeably soon. Dear Husband thinks Sunday will start to be better (your mouth to God’s ears, dear!). In the meanwhile, I’ll cautiously move around, sitting no longer than 30 minutes at a time (more like 10 or fifteen), and walking carefully for a few minutes after each sit session.
Things are looking up — but slowly.
