Adorable Child was crushed at the beginning of this school year. Although she spent much of the summer at various volleyball camps, and practiced those skills at every opportunity, she didn’t make the 7th grade volleyball team.
It wasn’t because she’s not good enough, though. Rather, there was a situation from 6th grade that followed her forward and affected the situation negatively.
Life has a funny way of accumulating the past and dropping it into your lap, doesn’t it?
But AC didn’t just learn that actions and events carry forward. It turns out getting up at 5 am to make a before-school practice every day is beyond painful, and her friends who did make the team are slowly coming unraveled.
The 8th grade VB team, though, practices in the afternoons — and I have no doubt AC will be on it.
Sometimes, not getting what you wanted turns out to be best… and either Barack Obama or John McCain are about to learn this same lesson.

So you see no chance of a leader who might get us to join together and make it better? Someone who might go down as a Churchill or FDR? Capable of delivering classic speaches that inspire a country, or even the world, maybe even sparking the next great era for America? A small chance for this to be one of those times we look back on as a true turning point?
Pan — I’ve spent so much time thinking on this the last few days, I thought my head might explode! At one point I really did see nothing but black ahead — as recently as yesterday afternoon, even!
But actually, I do see a very, very narrow path forward, and it does call for a leader such as you describe. But it will require a citizenry that can also see, clearly, what’s at stake. And it will require a president who is willing to take on Congress.
