A couple of weeks ago, Polimom went up to the Ouachita Mountain region of Arkansas.
Even though I knew the route (it’s a pretty straight shot up Hwy 59), I used the new GPS that Santa brought this year.
A funny thing happened, though, in Tenaha: the GPS recommended a turn just before the main intersection in this small NE Texas town. Since we’d come in on 59, and 59 continued on in front of me, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why the device was telling me to detour — but for grins and giggles, I took the scenic route.
Just a couple of miles later, we hooked back up with the highway, none the worse for the wear, and utterly unenlightened.
I wonder if this is the reason.
Thanks, Santa!

Last night, Polimom and family sat down to watch The Adam Lambert Show. Haven’t heard of it? Sure you have. It used to be called American Idol. Incredible.

The Houston Chronicle’s coverage of an East Harris County serial rapist / robber who targets young men included some interesting, and (to me) surprising information: About 3 percent of American men have been victims of sexual assault or an attempted …
One week shy of a year ago, the Bring New Orleans Back commission unveiled their recommendations for recovery and rebuilding NOLA. The response was underwhelming, as the Washington Post wrote in January 2006: Hundreds of residents packed into a hotel …

Unbelievable. Wait, wrong word unfortunately.

Since my mother lives in Shreveport, I drive that way all the time – I usually bypass it by taking US-259 to Mt. Enterprise, then 315 to Carthage because there are less small towns to go thru.
My main memory of Tenaha is the old Tex Ritter song, but I guess Tenaha now has a more infamous reason to remember it.
Highway 59 is so screwed up and under repair around Lufkin you are advised to take the bypass. Of course, the last time I did it I ended up missing the turn and circled Lufkin completely.
