Look what Osama sent for our fifth anniversary:
A new videotape aired on Aljazeera television has shown Osama bin Laden and senior Al-Qaeda members meeting with some of the men who carried out the September 11 attacks against the US in 2001.
The 90-minute video apparently shows Bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda, taking part in the planning and preparation of the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
This gift could hardly be less welcome to those who’ve been fondling their fantasies about a Jewish / PNAC / space aliens conspiracy. (Maybe Cheney was filming???) As far as Polimom’s concerned, though, flowers would have been more than adequate, thanks.
Is it just me, or does Osama’s latest offering resemble a freckle-nosed kid with his thumbs in his ears and tongue out, chanting, “Nyah nyah nyah”.
The video also showed two of the 19 Islamists who took part in the attacks, Saudi nationals Hamza el-Ramdi and Wael el-Shemari.
The men said that their actions were inspired by an urge to avenge the suffering of Muslims in Bosnia and Chechnya.
Sigh… Help me out here, but I’m lost as to why they’d want to attack the US over Bosnia or Chechnya. (They must have been thinking of some other Bosnia, rather than the one where the US was trying to help the Muslims.)
Interestingly, al Jazeera has this to say about the timing of this video:
The Al-Qaeda’s intention in releasing the tape ahead of the fifth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks is unclear.
The move may be intended to shore-up support for the pan-Islamic movement in the Arab world.
Al-Qaeda’s reputation has been tarnished in the eyes of many Arabs since 9-11 by its attacks against Muslim civilians in Jordan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Hmm…. a tarnished reputation would be fine, but I just keep hearing loud smacking raspberries in my mind. “You can’t catch me, you can’t catch me…”
Do you suppose Osama has noticed that the U.S. is ever-so-slightly off-task in our war, and is helpfully trying to point us back in the right direction?
