Actually, it’s mostly good news thus far. Gustav’s downgraded to a Cat 2, and things are holding together well in his face. Furthermore, storm surge is lower than originally expected, though it will be quite a few hours before that’s off the worry-charts.
There are a couple of reports on NOLA.com, though, about the Industrial Canal, that make me go “hmmm”.
The thought of loose barges, in particular, is not a good one.
Update: Nagin’s on the phone w/ wwltv right now, saying that yes, waves are overtopping (France Rd. apparently under water), and he also said that there are two ships and a barge loose in the canal and banging against the wall. Un-freakin’-believable. I cannot believe there were vessels there.

I can’t say I’m surprised by this, but I’m certainly disappointed. Of course, I’m not trying to plan the rebuilding of my house in New Orleans; if I were, I’d be thoroughly ticked. From NOLA.com: Although federal officials said Monday …
