Friends,
The day is passing, and there is still no word about getting into Algiers. I’m still optimistic, actually, that somebody will make a response. In the eventuality that they do not, or the answer is still “No”, I have taken the petition out of Draft status and posted it in its own area.
It may very well be that you do not wish to pursue this approach, knowing how complex the situation is. However, if it is the will of the Algiers community online to make this attempt, we should probably have that ready to go if needed.
The petition can be found here in the forum.

Algiers folks, We’re still waiting for an answer from Jeff Arnold about an officially sanctioned return to Algiers to feed/rescue pets, assess damage, and collect belongings. We need to press for a defined event. I’ve been on the phones with …
I feel like I’m spinning in circles. If somebody doesn’t give the leadership and officials a metaphoric smack across the face to relieve the hysterics, I think we’re ALL gonna go off the deep end. The quote below is from …
Has anybody been following the story about the Musicianâs Village being planned by the Habitat for Humanity? Initially, it didn’t sound well thought-out (to me), but as it has been fleshed out, it’s grown into an interesting idea. There’s some …
My opinion on Monday’s shooting is likely to be unpopular… Something is really starting to bother me about the NOPD’s situation, and I’m more worried about this than perhaps anything else that’s come up from Katrina to date. Yes, the …

Just wanted to let you know that Alastair was able to get into the point today with no problem. He was only retrieving a few belongings. Apparantly state police and the military stopped him to make sure he was only picking things up and leaving today.
He’ll post once he returns.

With regard to going back to Algiers Point, we were able to drive down the US 90 on to the West Bank Expressway and through Fischer Projects to Algiers Point without being stopped. On arriving there, there were several police vehicles and the military personel patrolling Algiers Point. The major problems seems to be falling trees and tree limbs and a lot of properties suffering minimal wind damage. While there, we cleaned out several refigerators and freezers and if going back, make sure you have cleaning supplies and heavy duty trash bags for this task. We are going to try and head back again tomorrow.
Alastair.
