    That the ABA doesn’t like the current system is indicative of what, exactly? That “…it discriminates against poor and middle-class defendants, does nothing for public safety…” or, that a 10 percent deposit on a bail bond is money that cannot be used as retainer for a criminal defense attorney? Sorry, but it is hard for me to ascribe purely altruistic motives to the ABA.
    Just curious, but what percentage of the “poor and middle class defendants” currently gettin’ hosed by the system, possess sufficient pledgable assets? Just asking.
    The current system is the worst , except for every other one.

    I haven’t a clue what the percentage is, but I’m sure it’s high. (no doubt a Google search would yield the answer, but I’m not that motivated… ) But if the alternative to “pledgable assets” bail is sitting in jail, I gotta agree with you here:
    The current system is the worst , except for every other one.
