  1. Saw this on NOLA…might be another option…use homes for esential business opersations:
    Help for businesses
The Louisiana Department of Economic Development has initiated efforts to aid New Orleans businesses.
Mary Jo Hanover, economic development analyst, said Wednesday the department is looking for sites to relocate New Orleans businesses outside the affected metropolitan area.
The department also has been in contact with an expert on economic incentives who is familiar with federal assistance program

  2. I am at 228 verret street and our cat is inside the house – we would be willing to assist in anyway if someone could help rescue or atleast feed the cat

  3. I am only 15, and live in Algiers Point and I think that it was incredable how we were “spared.”
I think any help that we can give would be greatly appreciated and I would like to help in the effort. I’m not sure what the family would think though. I mean, at least we have our health and such, and the material things don’t seem such a big deal at all as long as we can help those is the greatest need now.
Whatever help they can get would benefit us all in the long run.
Do you have any word of the 400 block of Seguin st? It would be greatly appreciated. Both of our cats are there and I just want to know how they are doing and how our house did in general.
When do you think it will be okay for people to get back into the Point?
Thanks for this blog… it’s keeping the family not so on edge.

  4. Thank you for the forethought. You all have done an excellent job in keeping us all informed about the Point. I live across from the firestation on Opelousas (422). I was wondering about the condition of my property (even though I have already assumed the worst and registered with FEMA). Any info would be appreciated on 422 Opelousas. Best wishes to all.

  5. Just an idea for those with friends and family members out side of New Orleans and LA. I’m here in West Texas with my parents and have decided to funnel my frustration and worry into something more productive. I’ve been writing letters to the editor and trying to get in touch with people here in the Abilene community to raise money for the Red Cross. A lot of times people distance themselves from these sorts of disasters by saying “it didn’t happen to me or anything I know”, by putting a local face of the situation you can movitvate people to become involved in the rescue effort. If anyone is intersted in joining me in letter writing or needs any help you can email me amberjmiddleton@gmail.com. At least this way we can make a difference, even when we’re trapped hundreds of miles away from home.

  6. first, i appreciate all the info so far. but since everyone else is asking about their houses, i guess i will also.
if you have anyone in the area, i live at 236 verret, i guess down the block from edwardnyc. any info about my place would be lovely. as i guess, i wont be seeing it for a while.
thanks again for compiling all this info, it has done wonders to ease our minds.

  7. My sister has been thinking about helping in some way with their house – it seems to be in very good condition (so they’ve heard from you & neighbors). They have had limited access to computers where they are currently staying. They would definitely be interested in helping out in some way utilizing their house (especially if whomever stays their would feed the cat). Please feel free to contact them at anix74@hotmail.com if you have any leads on how to go about doing this.
Also, they couldn’t find their cat before they left and put food for it in their 2nd floor. IF anyone sees a white cat wandering around please feed it or contact them at the above email to get food for it. It’s name is “Happy”

  8. we have two homes in AP and could help out housing first responders. How do we get more info?
Thanks for helping to calm our fears….

  9. Can you tell me about the 700-800 block of Pelican? I have relatives who live there. We know they are safe but don’t know about their house. Thanks for providing this service!

  10. I would also be interested in how the 400 block of Elmira is doing.
I notice that Jefferson Parish is at least being allowed back next week to check the damage. Is there any chance we can collectively petition to be allowed in to check things out?
Responsible people are more than welcome to use our house, especially once we have checked it out. Our landlord is on NOPD; maybe he could organize something?
