As an interesting side-note to the Paris riots: Iâve not seen many âI told you soâsâ? anywhere, which speaks well of everyone. Nonetheless, I appreciate this editorial statement from Le Figaro today (translated excerpt carried with others on the Guardian):
France is paying for its arrogance. In the eyes of the world, our famous model of social integration is going down the drain… Vengeance is a dish best served cold. America will never forget the criticisms of its society during the Iraq war and after the hurricane in Louisiana.
Well yes, actually â now that theyâve mentioned it⦠that does appear to have been a “glass chateau” some folks were standing in, does it not? But nobody wishes to see disasters on this scale befall anyone, and that includes Americans who are watching the deterioration in France, and spreading across Europe.
At the end of the day, the best any of us can do is strive for improvement and tolerance – within our own borders, and from our neighbors.
