  1. Hi there… thank you so much for what you are doing!
I’ve been sitting here in Iraq hoping my friends in da pernt and my house Uptown are OK.
Please tell Julie, Patrick, Vinnie (I know them well) and everyone else to hang in there.
    Tom

  2. 276 Elmira here, I made contact via text message with my Firefighter husband who is still in the “Zoo” we all call home. He had a chance to make a run to his parents house which is towards the end of Gen. Degaulle, (past Kabel Dr.) off Woodland Dr., near the bridge which goes over to the English turn area. He said it looks great, trees and debris, but no water. Our home in the Point did not fare so well, much more wind damage and downed trees, but again, no water in the streets. I’m sure he’s not aware of the crime spree which has overwhelmed the city, so I’m glad to hear that it was fairly quiet last night. I’ll keep you posted if I hear anything else. Thanks so much for this website…it’s practically my only connection and my main source of info.

  3. polimom,
this blog along with those brave souls communicating from the point is what is really giving me hope and determination to come home and put things back together, rather than give in and walk away. such a community as this, which people find amongst the various enclaves of new orleans, can not be replaced, and i don’t think the rest of the country will ever understand this phenomenon quite like we do.
me and my loved one from 236 verret check your blog several times a day. we are twenty-something architects who have just lived in the point over a year…(ironic that several architects live in the point…we know it is the best and now our friends will have to agree) we also know it is agonizing for our friends who have no sense of what is going on in their block, neighborhood, or even general area of the city for that matter. thank you thank you thank you. i hate to say this, but we are all depending heavily on you right now for an ounce of peace-of-mind.
glad everyone made it through the night. always thinking of you all.
    sincerely

  4. Is this Tom – Traci’s boyfriend. This is Wendy, Kevin’s wife. We are in Houma at my parents. Where is Traci? I heard she went North. I’ve lost contact with Penny, but she is safe in Chicago.
This situation is unbelievable. Ous direct Email is cockney@bellsouth.net
    Take care.

  5. Wendy / Kevin,
Yes it’s me. I agree: absolutely unbelieveable. Glad you guys are OK!
Traci evac’d to our farm in Alabama, then moved on to her dad’s house in Monroe. She is fine, but frustrated like the rest of us.
Anybody heard from Mark & Stacy, Jane, Dell, or Mike R.?
I’ll be home at the end of the month … not sure what I’ll be coming back to though.
    Semper Fi,
    Tom
