There have been a couple posts on polimom.com (in the last few minutes) from officials, to Algiers.
One is from Jackie Clarkson, who was apparently interviewed for the Today Show. Her letter about it has a few more details on the progress in Algiers.
There was also a post for the NOPD, asking for some help with housing. You can find it here.
Finally – There are concerns and questions about how families can come back without schools. I’m absolutely relaying your concerns back up the communication tree, and voicing several of my own while I’m at it. No word yet; we’ll have to keep at it.
More later…

You all know that communication with Algiers, other than the Point, has been intermittent at best. As a result, we’ve not had a lot of information. I have, however, been talking with a couple of people there, and one of …
Yesterday, I drove an hour into Houston to attend Mayor Naginâs âTown Hallâ? meeting in Houston. Along with a few hundred other people (this place was hard to find!), I listened to the mayorâs optimistic (and occasionally evasive) pep rally …
I think Iâm going to check into Denver real estate. The people seem to be able to Walk the Walk about reforming drug legislation. And in case you were wondering (since Iâm a mom and allâ¦) â Nope, I donât …
Barring divine intervention, some part of the Gulf Coast is going to have to deal with this next storm. Once Ritaâs in the Gulf, thatâs the only end game. There have been debates ad nauseum about New Orleansâ exposure, and …
there is a good article in the NOLA.com today with an update on the progress of school openings and damage assessment.
bgstfs, you are right. The article is here: Damage report on metro area schools.
Some of our friends have gotten back into the point, they’ve been able to call and we’ve heard half of the point has electricity, We heard it from some friends who called that were in the point at that moment, so we were trying to see what everyone knew about anything of that manner…Angies says god bless everyone
I’m glad to see that the point is finally getting power back. Does anyone know if the 200 block of Pelican has power yet. We know that a telephone pole was down, and we were wondering if they had maybe fixed that. We’re checking for us, as well as my fiancees aunts, all of us can’t wait to get back home as soon as we can.
Am on the Point. The people in the outer edges need help. My husband and I have been distributing food and toilet paper (a commodity worth more than gold) for two days. We will try to take the digital camera out tomorrow during our food runs, but some areas are hard to get to. Am only online via an access number thru New Mexico! But hey, there are many of us who are hanging tough and doing what we can. Barter economy is thriving. what is needed should you return is dog food, cat food, toilet paper, booze and cigs. I know it’s terrible but that’s what is getting us through in some cases. There are more of us every day and no one has encountered a checkpoint. Take a look at your map. We took LA 22 across the Sunshine Bridge which turns into LA70, then to 3127 to 90 (Westbank Expressway). Giant signs all along saying checkpoints ahead, never found one got right in. There is power on Elmira and it should be on the point by I’d say Mon/Tues. The crews are everywhere, but no stores open and bring gas can with you, no gas anywhere, although rumors abound. Some damage in the outer parts of Algiers, some in the Point, but overall houses that were re-habed are doing okay. There really are more of us every day and we’re all working together to help out. Expect to be pressed into service in some capacity. National Guard and regular Army everywhere, along with power bucket trucks trying to get power over here. Watch out for flat tires, LOOK at the streets you’re driving on and go slowly, trees down, power lines dripping along two feet above the street. The steeple of the Lutheran Church is on the sidewalk. So many stories. Just a quick update so you know what you’re up against if you come back.
Just spoke to Wayne. The Crown & Anchor English Pub has power (200 Pelican) and some of Elmira.
I tried loging in to post a comment about available rental housing, but it wouldn’t let me? What’s the deal?
fergie – it seems to be working okay. Can you send me an email?
