That warehouse fire that’s going down by the river is really a hot blaze. I hear that sometime around midnight, it really cranked up again – flames estimated to be well over 100 feet high. With that, there are intermittent popping noises, presumably from whatever is burning there.
I could hear these pops through the phone – kind of reminded me of firecrackers going off in half-second or one-second intervals. Wonder what’s in those warehouses?
The folks down on Pelican St. say that someone was prowling around the block last night. They know because they’ve scattered some aluminum cans about as an alert system. They called out several times, and then finally shouted that they were going to shoot. Whoever it was said, “Don’t shoot!”, and took off. Guess they really didn’t want to get shot, because they didn’t come back.
About 8 families/folks pulled out of the area around Pelican late yesterday. I know you’re wondering who’s still there, so I have these names: Louis, Gregg, Vinnie, Garrath, Mrs. P., Kenneth, Roland, and David.
Finally – still no real-live National Guard seen. Whatever they were doing initially yesterday, they haven’t made their presence known in person yet.
Good morning world!

I need to revisit, I think, the description of the barricades and the evacuees. I did not say the barricades were to keep people from doing damage. The reasons for the barricades, I was told, included the evacuees’ safety (there …
Panic is setting in, it sounds like. There are many reports now that looting is taking place on a large scale, and martial law has been imposed. WDSU.com has ongoing updates here: http://www.wdsu.com/weather/4913354/detail.html It sounds as if there are several …

Good morning AP! Nat’l Guard has taken control of the convention ctr. and most of the lawlessness on eastbank, at least under control. I pray they quickly make there presence known on westbank, hold strong…
Hi! My family and I evacuated from the lower coast of Algiers, and were wondering if u have any information on the area between Aurora St. and Sullen St. on Patterson Dr.
Hello AP! Hope everyone is safe and rested! Does anyone have any info on 312 Pelican? I don’t expect anyone there to go inspect, but if you have driven buy or something, please let me know. It looks pretty good from the aerial shot, as does most of the Point. I want totThank all of you that are there very, very much for trying to protect the neighborhood. And thank you Polimom for your wonderful efforts. I wish they would let us in to help with the effort… will be there as soon as allowed.
David
Polimom,
I know that about a million folk have told you this already, but thank you so much for being such a great source of news and info about our neighborhood. We all apreciate you filling in the gap that the Media has left about our area. After all this is over (?) make sure you let us know when you will be visiting us in the point… I think there are a lot of people among us that would like to buy you a beer.
Big Rob of Seguin st.
Good Morning, Our friends in Algiers on Belleville St. did not evacuate. We spoke to them each day until yesterday. Has anyone heard anything? I know it was rough(looting) when they called on Thursday and am very concerned. Thank You
I have been talking to Pam Dixon who lives on the Point… I can no longer get a hold of her. She has an ill Cousin-in-law with her…
Does anyone know wher she went????
I received a call at 10:12 am eastern time. They are safe in Mississippi. They had a difficult time getting out and gas was scarce. From their reports I don’t think it is safe to go back in yet. They did say that they did hear speakers on Thursday night addressing looters but they are still a problem. I will be talking to them again this evening or before – please let me know if you have any questions I can ask them. My prayers are with everyone. Thank you Polimom for everything!
Does Vinnie have anyway to call out? If so, if anyone knows how to reach him, ask him to all Phil Casper at 504-905-4025, or 504-329-0828 or if he has nextel direct connect 146*22*6360.
I want to hear from anyone from Algiers with Nextel Direct Connect (Beep, Beep). Though phone service may not be reliable, the walkie-talkie feature of Nextel is still working.
Thanks,
Is there anyone with any information about St. Andrew school? Their website is not reflecting recent events. Just wondering how the school and church fared. I’m not sure what to do about my son. Do I need to enroll him here in Alabama where I am staying? It seems like they could let the areas on the Westbank that weren’t so hard hit come back and try to get back to normal. Just sad…
To Greer, please bring your child back to St. Andrew, I am sure that Father Paul will ensure the school’s survival, and each student depends on that. I live behind the school on MacArthur, and plan on returning asap. Our neighborhood survived, now it is up to us as residents to return and continue living…please don’t lose hope. Our community will be better than ever. Hope to see you all soon.
Daniel and Tracy,
Thank you for your response. I feel more hopeful today than I have all week. We are definately going to return asap.

Hello everyone!
Like all Point residents, I commend and thank our brave militia for protecting our neighborhood from ruin. I cannot even imagine the hell our brave protectors endured for our sakes! I talked to Angie from the Dry Dock who clued me in on the first days following the storm. Fortunately, she and family are now out of there. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that we are all very fortunate to be among the 20 percent whose homes were unflooded. Weren’t we the wise ones to choose such high ground! Guess the Duverjes who first settled on the courthouse grounds knew what they were doing. My home is 224 Bermuda. My daughter’s cat was left inside and do hope she made her way out of a broken window by now!! Hugs and prayers to all!
