A couple of weeks ago, Polimom went up to the Ouachita Mountain region of Arkansas.
Even though I knew the route (it’s a pretty straight shot up Hwy 59), I used the new GPS that Santa brought this year.
A funny thing happened, though, in Tenaha: the GPS recommended a turn just before the main intersection in this small NE Texas town. Since we’d come in on 59, and 59 continued on in front of me, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why the device was telling me to detour — but for grins and giggles, I took the scenic route.
Just a couple of miles later, we hooked back up with the highway, none the worse for the wear, and utterly unenlightened.
I wonder if this is the reason.
Thanks, Santa!

Last night, Polimom and family sat down to watch The Adam Lambert Show. Haven’t heard of it? Sure you have. It used to be called American Idol. Incredible.
This is it, folks — the official First Day of Hurricane Season. Are you ready? Over here in Texas, officials have been working on a coordinated state-wide plan to manage (coherently) a more orderly evacuation and preparation process. Comforting, I …
Had to take Adorable Child (AC) to a doctor’s appointment today. Her doctor mentioned that she’d been seeing people all morning who “had to get in today” because they were “evacuating”. AC confirmed that many of the kids she knows …
Polimom is so glad New Orleans held Mardi Gras this year. If ever a town and its population deserved a break from unrelenting bad news, it’s NOLA – and get a break they did. Is it smaller? Of course. Were …

Unbelievable. Wait, wrong word unfortunately.
Almost makes you wish Rambo was a real person 😉

Since my mother lives in Shreveport, I drive that way all the time – I usually bypass it by taking US-259 to Mt. Enterprise, then 315 to Carthage because there are less small towns to go thru.
My main memory of Tenaha is the old Tex Ritter song, but I guess Tenaha now has a more infamous reason to remember it.
Highway 59 is so screwed up and under repair around Lufkin you are advised to take the bypass. Of course, the last time I did it I ended up missing the turn and circled Lufkin completely.
