Spanking, semantics, and mush

  1. Let’s see… I guess that if the state of CA is so opposed to such cruel treatment as spanking, that means they will be closing San Quentin, Pelican Bay, and the other houses of inhumanity in their penal system, and just giving those murderers, robbers, rapists, and jaywalkers 15 minutes in the corner, eh?
    Didn’t think so.
Actually, if that silly law passes, they better start converting their middle schools into juvenile detention facilities – they can turn the high schools into regular prisons, ‘cuz they are gonna need them! And I am not talking about the parents who swat their kids, either – they are gonna need them for the kids who, after growing up with California discipline, have absolutely no respect for the law, and have decided to become strict Darwinists.
Another thing I have found interesting: over at Gunblog, J Reynolds discusses this subject. Particularly interesting was this quote:

Yes, I favor caning. You ask, are you out of your mind, Williams? Not at all. You go into any prison, and find a convict who has been there 40 years, who has spent his entire adult life in jail. You say to him, “If you had been caned when you first got arrested, would you have gone straight? Would you rather have been caned when you were 18 or 19, or would you rather have spent the last 40 years in prison?” I guarantee you, every single one of them will say they wish they’d gotten caned, right when they first started breaking the law, rather than spending the last 40 years in prison.

Wow… what would I have preferred, a half dozen with a piece of bamboo (or even a leather strap), or 40 years in a prison cell (followed by life long pariahship)? Don’t know about you folks, but I do know the choice I would make.
But, I would have been old enough to make the choice (if it were available.) Those in the under-3 generation don’t have the knowledge to make such a choice, yet. Which is why God made parents.
I’m with Polimom on this one: if passed, this will be simply another reason not to live in the land of fruits and nuts (and, increasingly, vegetables.)
