When Adorable Child decided to start swimming competitively last year, we really hadn’t a clue what we were getting into. Our knowledge could be summed up with, “they swim a lot” and “they have meets sometimes”.
LOL!
Turns out to be rather a lot more complicated than that. It also seems that AC is pretty good at it — and so we’re off to Addison TX this afternoon for TAGS – the highest level competition a 14-&-under Texas swimmer can achieve who hasn’t made a Junior Nationals qualifying time.
AC has qualified in five individual events, but since her best stroke is the ‘fly, she’ll be swimming it a lot… and it looks much better than this these days:
From where this mom is sitting, though, that already looked pretty good!
And yes, I’m bringing my computer, but I can’t promise I’ll be writing. If not, have a great weekend; we’ll be back next week…
I’m what some might term a good floater. The butterfly is an exhausting stroke!
Good luck, AC!!
My daughter was a competitive swimmer of some note from her early teens on, training year round, and could have gotten a full ride to any number of fine universities. But by her senior year in high school she had hit the wall and was mentally exhausted by the grind.
I supported her totally in her decision even if it meant having to help pay for her college, a small consequence when you consider the long-term,
Thanks, Goldenrod, for the wishes! She had a tremendous meet!
Shaun — yes, swimming is a crazy-massive commitment. I can see AC going either direction. For now, though, she’s totally addicted.
