This is just too bizarre for words (The Spain Herald):
The Spanish Socialist Party will introduce a bill in the Congress of Deputies calling for “the immediate inclusion of (simians) in the category of persons, and that they be given the moral and legal protection that currently are only enjoyed by human beings.”
And you thought the American political fringe was nuts. Ha!
Why stop at simians? Why not include all animals? And plants? And rocks?
One of my favorites among all the accusations that have ever been levelled at me is not that I’m prejudiced in favor of humanity, but in favor of life itself. How dare I discriminate between life and nonlife? How conceited, that life would be in any way superior to nonlife! Read it here …
Obviously, when a person is shot and killed, we shouldn’t just care about the human victim, but about the poor little bullet as well.
Isn’t it this kind of thinking that gave rise to the AIDS virus in humans?!? Thought I’d inject another perspective into the discussion.
Calling life superior or inferior to non-life isn’t helpful. Life has more ways to survive, generally speaking, so it tends to win. If superiority is defined by winning, then OK.
